I recently watched the film, Iris, directed by Albert Maysles (of Grey Gardens fame). I felt so inspired by Iris Apfel and her wit, wisdom, and eclectic collections - from kitsch to haute couture - that I resolved to make 2016 a year of inspired creativity.
Sometimes it's hard for me to feel creative, and it's difficult to tap into my imagination. Sometimes I struggle to interpret some beautiful thing, person, or scene in words, or photographs, or whatever medium I'm attempting to work in.
And other times I feel inspired.
Inspiration can't be forced, but it can be cultivated. I cultivate inspiration by being open to what the world has to offer - I find that meditation helps with this.
When I have free time, I like to engage in what I like to call 'structured spontaneity,' often involves art walks, photo expeditions, antiquing, people watching, and window shopping. Or I might dig in to an app like Instagram or Spotify, or a glossy mag like Vanity Fair.
There is so much in this world to be inspired by - the trick is to take notice.
What inspires you? Let me know.
